July was a month of powerful connection. Among its important moments was the Australian-first Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), held in Sydney last week.
The four-day workshop brought together bereaved veteran families for an immersive experience in healing, peer support and remembrance. Adapted from a decades-old U.S. model, the program offered space for grief, growth and reconnection, equipping participants with tools to navigate their journey and safely reconnect with community.
We were honoured to help deliver this program in partnership with the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs, the Veteran Family Advocate Commissioner, Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling, the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs and other partners.
Earlier this year, veterans in Victoria connected over an 8-week surf therapy program, facilitated by Invictus Australia and The Waves of Wellness Foundation.
IPAR has renewed its formal partnership with Invictus Australia for another three years strengthening its commitment to the health and wellbeing of veterans and their families across the country.
Through this partnership, IPAR is helping ensure more veterans and families can access the benefits of sport, recreation and community connection.
Welcome to our newest Community Partner Baseball Australia, we are excited to open more doors for veterans and their families to experience the physical, mental and social benefits of baseball.
This month we welcomed three new members to our Local Engagement Team. Veterans or family members themselves, they are excited to facilitate local sporting opportunities for their community. Join their local Facebook groups below.
We see a world in which all members of the Australian Defence community are active and connected through the power of sport and recreation to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing throughout their lives.
